Start with an offcut from the same sheet as the final piece. Mark a modest grid of power and speed combinations, then inspect line weight, smoke staining, edge char, and how easily residue sands away.
Keep the useful evidence
Write the material, thickness, focus, and date directly beside the grid. A setting without its material context is only a number.
